Get To Know “The Girls”
-
Viva
This is Viva. Her coop-mates were taken by a bear, and her chicken dad called and asked us if we could take her. She has settled in wonderfully here at the Farm. She knows her name and even comes when she's called.
She is super sweet but very skittish, while also being the loudest hen we have. Whenever any other hens lay an egg, she also makes a ton of noise!

Ebony
This is Ebony. She is a Silver Laced Wyandotte, and we believe she is 5 years old. Wyandottes are known for their attractive black and white feathers and their docile temperament.
She came to us because her chicken mom is sick and can no longer care for her. We happily took in both Ebony and her sister. This young lady is a favorite of our rooster, who is also named Ebony. They are together most of the time and make quite an adorable couple.

Stubby
This is Stubby. She is a 6-year-old New Hampshire Red, a breed developed in the early twentieth century in the state of New Hampshire by selective breeding of Rhode Island Red stock.
As you can see, her name is Stubby because she is missing some of her toes. All of her coop mates were taken by a predator, and when she ran away to hide she had been in the elements a little bit too long and lost a few toes to frostbite. You would never know it, though; she scratches around just like everyone else. She came to live with us because her owner was concerned about her being alone, and she now lives with us very happily. She is one of our most independent hens, doing her own thing and seeming to have very good “street sense”.
